How Does Truth Set Us Free?

Did you ever think that truth is constraining in nature? Interesting paradox because "the truth shall make you free." John 8: 32

Look at it this way:

"You see, if 2 + 2 = 4, then we are not free to believe that the total is 5 or 10 or 103. Only one right answer is constraining. You can believe anything you want, but on the other hand, if you want to be free to build a rocket that is capable of flying to the moon, then you had better believe 2 + 2 = 4. Without the terribly constraining nature of truth, we could not be free to do anything!" - University Professor, Dr. Hal Heaton

Hi Alicia
The paradox you are proposing is called a ko•an
NOUN:
A puzzling, often paradoxical statement or story, used in Zen Buddhism as an aid to meditation and a means of gaining spiritual awakening.

The context of John 8: concerns Jesus teachings at the Mt of Olives. In vs 32 he is talking to the Pharasies,for whom the words "stiff necked and stubborn"seem to be made for. Its like they asked him "What is the meaning of life" He said in
John 14:6 I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

What is the truth, it seems that according to the scriptures,the truth is Jesus Christ;it is more a spiritual meaning,a pure meaning then the "truth" of the world,which has strings to it.

Moroni 10: 5 And by the power of the Holy Ghost ye may know the truth of all things.

D&C 5:23-26
23 And that which doth not edify is not of God, and is darkness.
24 That which is of God is light; and he that receiveth light, and continueth in God, receiveth more light; and that light groweth brighter and brighter until the perfect day.
25 And again, verily I say unto you, and I say it that you may know the truth, that you may chase darkness from among you;

John 8:31 Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed;
32 And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.
33 They answered him, We be aAbraham’s seed, and were never in bondage to any man: how sayest thou, Ye shall be made free?
34 Jesus answered them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin.
35 And the servant abideth not in the house for ever: but the Son abideth ever.
36 If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.

Freedom is deliverance;it is liberty,it is peace. To be truely,free/liberated is to abide in Jesus Christ.
Isaiah 61
The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me; because the LORD hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound (Luke 14:18)
Jesus said, My sheep hear my voice and they know me.
Amen Sister

Thanks for your comment Ramona. You hit the nail right on the head. It may seem constraining to some that Jesus said that He is the ONLY WAY to the FATHER. There is no other way but in and through CHRIST... and yet that is the beauty of it because this one and only way is also the one and only path to eternal FREEDOM.
